Questions and answers about PrimarySites and PrimaryKids:

| |
|
Answer to Qu.1. - Is the whole site free including the newsletter?
Yes the whole site is free for everyone to use. The database of
websites for primary teachers and children was put together to help
myself and a few others keep a list of the best sites for use in
school.
It was then decided to make it available to all. Eventually adverts
may be placed on the site to help cover costs but not for the foreseeable
future.

Answer to Qu.2. - Are all the sites listed suitable for children?
All the sites have been checked to ensure they are suitable for
the primary environment but if a site changes after it has been
checked, this will be difficult to control.
All primary children should have an adult supervising their online
activities. If you find a site listed that you consider is unsuitable
then please e-mail us and the site will be removed.

Answer to Qu.5. - What is Primary Kids?
The 'Primary Kids' section
of the site offers children their own search facilities of the Primary
Sites database. It is a child friendly version of the main search
page and will only return sites that are aimed at children or the
teacher/children audience, therefore not showing sites aimed at
teachers.
Children can only search by 'search word' rather than by subject,
with the aim to keep it as simple as possible.
If you are a school hoping to use this page then click on 'Add
to Favourites', which will as the title suggests add this page to
your favourites list, making it easier to find or you can create
a link from your school homepage directly.
The address is http://www.primarysites.co.uk/primarykids/kids.htm

Answer to Qu.6. - How does the search facility work?
When the user enters a word and clicks on 'Search', the database
is opened up and the sites are search by name and their description.
If any words are found matching the search word then the site is
printed with all its details for the user to see. It does not matter
if capital letters are used or not, the search just compares the
letters.

Answer to Qu.7. - Are cookies used on the site and what are
they?
Cookies are small files stored in a special folder on your computer.
They are used by internet web sites to store any personalisation
settings you might make, and to be able to keep these settings as
you move through the site. At present they are used on this site
but do not collect any data about the user.
Is there a security risk?
Cookies can only be read by the site that puts the information
there in the first place - no one else can access them. Confidential
details, such as your name and address are never stored in cookies,
nor are credit card details. There is no way that a cookie can maliciously
cause damage, or allow access to your computer - they are little
more than electronic bookmarks

Answer to Qu.8. -How to vote?
You now have the chance to vote on how useful you
find these sites and to view the results from previous votes.
When you click on the site name, it will open up in
a new windows. When you have finished using it, close that window
and vote.
This option is brand new, so to start with lots of
sites will have 0 votes. Try a site and be the first to give your
opinions.
